Preheat Oven.
In a large mixing bowl combine the butter, granulated sugar and egg beat until fluffy. Add the buttermilk and vanilla, mix on low speed of mixer. Add the flour, baking cocoa, baking soda and salt. Mix until well blended. Spray pan with nonstick pan spray. Pour batter into pan and bake for the allotted time or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack before frosting.
